For guidance in decisions, relationships, and daily life
James 1:5 (NIV)
"For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight." - 1 Corinthians 3:19
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
"The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding."
"When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom."
"How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!"
Heavenly Father,
I come before You today acknowledging my need for Your wisdom. In my decisions, relationships, work, and daily life, I need Your guidance. Your Word says if I lack wisdom, I should ask You, and You will give generously. So I ask now: fill me with Your wisdom, discernment, and understanding. Help me to see situations from Your perspective and make choices that honor You. Teach me to value Your wisdom more than earthly knowledge. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Before making decisions, spend time in prayer and Scripture.
God often speaks through wise, mature believers in your life.
Wisdom often comes through waiting on God's timing.
Read one chapter of Proverbs each day (31 chapters = 1 month).
A: Knowledge is information and facts. Wisdom is the ability to apply knowledge rightly in life situations. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction." - Proverbs 1:7
A: Ask Him! "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." - James 1:5. Also study Scripture and seek godly counsel.
A: Fearing God means reverencing Him as Lord of all. This puts everything in right perspective - we see ourselves, others, and circumstances in light of God's sovereignty and goodness.
A: God's wisdom aligns with Scripture, produces peace, honors Christ, and bears good fruit over time. Test ideas against God's Word and seek confirmation through prayer and godly counsel.
A: Both! There's wisdom we develop through experience and learning, and there's supernatural wisdom the Holy Spirit gives. Proverbs is essentially a wisdom training manual.
A: Wisdom considers long-term consequences, seeks multiple perspectives, waits for God's timing, and prioritizes eternal values over temporary gains.
A: Wisdom recognizes how much we don't know and our dependence on God. Pride closes us to correction and new understanding. "When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom." - Proverbs 11:2
A: Listen more than you speak, seek to understand before being understood, be quick to forgive, set healthy boundaries, and pray for discernment in interactions.
A: Money can be lost, but wisdom guides you to make good decisions in any circumstance. Wisdom leads to life, protection, and honor. "How much better to get wisdom than gold!" - Proverbs 16:16
A: The Spirit reminds us of Scripture, gives discernment, provides insight into situations, and guides our thinking when we submit to Him. "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." - John 14:26
